Fellowship at First
Daily Coffee Fellowship
If you haven't been in the Parish House at 10:00 a.m. any day Monday through Friday you don't know about one of the quiet ministries of First Lutheran. Every morning at 10:00, everyone on the church campus--the pastor, the secretary, the gardening team, the bulletin folders, the members of Bible Study group (on Tuesday) and anyone else who happens to be there all gather around the big table in the dining room and share coffee, goodies, and conversation.
Every Sunday after the 10:15 service the Witness Spiritual Unit sponsors a coffee hour in Fellowship Hall. Goodies are prepared by volunteers and accompany two big pots of coffee. We do like our coffee.
On the first Sunday of every month (except summer) we have Soup and Salad in place of the usual goodies. These are prepared in the church kitchen by volunteers.
Eating and drinking coffee are two of our favorite pastimes at First. Consequently, we have put together a new cookbook celebrating the 135th Anniversary of First Lutheran in 2005. This book features recipes used at various functions--Smorgasbords, Soup Lunches, Sweets and Treats Events, etc. Of course there are also some old-time Swedish family recipes as well.
Second Sunday Programs
Let our guest speakers broaden your horizons. Previous speakers have included Bryan Robertson on the subject of Ecuador, Dr. Norman Moline of Augustana College on China, and Art and Linda Milton on Tanzania.
Other recent programs include Paul and Nydia Johnson of the Latin American Missionís Spearhead program. Under this LAM program Paul and Nydia work in Mexico City and the Mexican Republic to train missionaries, counsel with local pastors, and orient Host families and other Spearhead leaders. Spearhead operates within the language and culture of the Latin American people to strengthen national churches.
